Ecclesiastes
Ecclesiastes is the Spirit-inspired journal of Solomon's passionate search for true meaning and satisfaction in the things of the world. He found out the hard way that nothing this world has to offer can fill the God-shaped void in every person's heart and worldly pursuits and pleasures leave a person feeling empty and unhappy. Only when a person looks beyond this world and learns to view life as a gift from God to be enjoyed and God as one to be honored and obeyed does life become truly meaningful and fulfilling because that is, after all, the ultimate purpose of life.
C. S. Lewis characterized it well when he penned the following: "Creatures are not born with desires unless satisfaction for those desires exists. A baby feels hunger: well, there is such a thing as food. A duckling wants to swim: well, there is such a thing as water. Men feel sexual desire: we;;, there is such a thing as sex. If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. If none of my earthly pleasures satisfies it, that does not prove that the universe is a fraud. Probably earthly pleasures were never meant to satisfy it, but only to arouse it, to suggest the real thing."
Ask God to help you learn from Solomon's experience that life is not worth living without a personal relationship with God in which you honor and obey Him through His Son Jesus Christ.
