Be Reminded

June 2, 2013 Speaker: Billy Blakey

Passage: Titus 3:1–8

Sunday Service
Titus 3:1-8
As Paul nears the end of his letter to Titus, he urges Titus to remind the believers on the island of Crete of certain things. Today, we can tend to be forgetful in our every day lives and even be forgetful of spiritual truths that God always wants to be on the forefront of our minds. This morning, let us be reminded as well.
In this morning's message, we are given three things that the Lord wants us to be reminded of:
1.  Remember what God wants us to do (v. 1-2)
To be submissive to all rule and authority that God has ordained to be over us. This includes governments, employers, family, the church, and especially, God's Word. This means willingly submitting to God-ordained authority and is a characteristic of true believers. Believers are called to be gentle to others and to show perfect courtesy to all.
2.  Remember who we were apart from Christ (v. 3)
When we have a high view of ourselves, we tend to forget to submit to authority and we tend to forget to regard others as better of ourselves. All believers must remind themselves of the fact that they were once foolish and led astray to idolatry, unrepentent sin, and rebellion against God. All believers were once lovers of the world and its sin and it is only by the grace of God that we were delievered from that.
3.  Remember the Gospel (vv. 4-8)
We are helpless to escape the eternal spiritual death of sin by any means of our own. But God's compassion and goodness came to us in the form of His Son Jesus Christ, who alone is able to offer salvation. Sinners must be born again spiritually - regenerated spiritually by the Holy Spirit and given new life in Christ. Belief in the gospel is what God requires for justification, for it is by His grace that sinners are declared righteous.
May we be stirred up by way of reminder of all the things God wants us to be and all that He wants us to be mindful of because we are creatures made anew by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ our Lord!
