Selected Scriptures

God’s favorite way of describing His relationship to us in the Bible is that of a Shepherd and a flock of sheep. A basic survey of this shepherd/sheep imagery throughout Scripture can be summarized in the following FIVE STATEMENTS about shepherding.

1. God likened Himself to a shepherd of His people to a flock under His care.
[Genesis 48:15; Psalm 23, 78:52, 80:1, 95:6-7; Isaiah 40:11, 53:6]

2. God described those He called to lead and care for His people as shepherds.
[Moses - Psalm 77:20; David - 78:72]

3. Human shepherds often failed and needed to be replaced.
[Ezekiel 34:1-14, 23-24, 30-31; Jeremiah 23:1-6]

4. Jesus Christ is the perfect Shepherd God promised to raise up to care for His people who laid down His life for them.
[Matthew 2:5-6, 9:36; John 10:11-17; 1 Peter 5:14; Hebrews 13:20]

5. Jesus commissioned men to serve as His under shepherds and they will be called to account when He returns.
[Peter - John 21:15-17; 1 Peter 2:25, 5:1-5]
[Paul - Acts 20:28; Hebrews 13:17]
[John - Revelation 7:17]

Thank God for providing you with shepherds to watch over and care for your soul. Ask God to give you wisdom in choosing the best Grow Group to attend and that He would use your close interaction with other people in our church to help you grow and mature in your relationship with Him.
