The classic Old Testament story of Daniel in the lion’s den vividly illustrates the New Testament principle that unbelievers can be won over by someone who lives a pure and holy life of integrity in the midst of a pagan culture that ferociously attacks and persecutes them for their uncompromising commitment to follow and serve Christ. This chapter can be divided into eight parts:
1. THE PROMOTION OF DANIEL (vv. 1-3)
2. THE PLOT AGAINST DANIEL (vv. 4-9)
3. THE PRAYER OF DANIEL (vv. 10-11)
4. THE PROSECUTION OF DANIEL (vv. 12-18)
5. THE PRESERVATION OF DANIEL (vv. 19-23)
6. THE PUNISHMENT OF DANIEL’S ENEMIES (v. 24)
7. THE PRAISE OF DANIEL’S GOD (vv. 25-27)
8. THE PROSPERITY OF DANIEL (v. 28)
Thank God for His faithful provision and protection as you live in a pagan culture that is hostile to the gospel. As Him to help you live with integrity so others will be won to Christ by your godly example. Ask Him to help you trust Him when He calls you to share in the sufferings of Christ (cf. Isaiah 26:3-4).
