A Faithful Finish

2 Timothy 4:6-8

In the Christian life, it is not how you start that matters, but how you finish. Anyone can start well; finishing well is the hard part. Based on statistics, the sad reality is more falter than finish. Remaining faithful to the end of our lives isn’t easy but it’s not impossible; Paul proved that. And here in his final charge to his young disciple Timothy, he challenged him to be faithful to the finish just like he had been faithful to the finish. It’s as if Paul was lying on his deathbed and his life was flashing before him. He first considered his current situation, then he reflected back over the last 30 years of life and ministry, and finally, he pondered the glories that awaited him in heaven. He focused his attention on THREE DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS; the present, the past, and the future. In Paul’s legendary words to Timothy, we are taught how to live and how to die well.

1. PAUL CONSIDERED THE PRESENT (v. 6)

2. PAUL REFLECTED ON THE PAST (v. 7)
• A FIGHT WELL-FOUGHT
• A RACE WELL-RUN
• A FAITH WELL-KEPT

3. PAUL PONDERED THE FUTURE (v. 8)

Thank God for His amazing grace that has saved a wretch like you and that has brought you safely through many dangers, toils, and snares and will ultimately lead you home to heaven someday. Ask Him to let you get home before dark.
