Trust In The Lord
Proverbs 3:5,6

THEME: Solomon wrote Proverbs to teach his sons how to fear the Lord and become wise. The wisdom in the book of Proverbs can only be unlocked by the one who fears the Lord (1:7). With great authority and affection Solomon appeals to the spiritual youth to trust in the Lord so that the Lord might make his path straight in life (3:1-6). All who desire to become wise know that trustiung God is difficult because of how hard life is. Heartache, disappointment, grief, frustration, dashed hopes, dull aches, stabbing pain, humiliation, demotion, rejection, failure - it is all part of living in this cursed world. In Proverbs 3:5, 6, we find three parts of the command to trust the Lord so that our path in life will be made straight no matter what comes at us.

1. THE COMMAND TO TRUST IN THE LORD (3:5-6a)
a. TRUST (3:5a)
b. LEAN (3:5b)
c. KNOW (3:6a)

2. THE CONSEQUENCE OF TRUST IN THE LORD (3:6b)

The Lord promises to make your way smooth or straight as you trust, lean, and know Him more. This means that no matter what the circumstances or challenges of life, God will show you the morally straight way to walk. Think practically. How is it a benefit to know God's revealed will in His Word when you are wrestling with knowing what God is doing with your life?
