When Life Throws You A Curve - Pt. 2

August 20, 2017 Speaker: Ken Ramey Series: Stand Alone Sermons

Topic: Perseverance Passage: James 1:1–1:12

WHEN LIFE THROWS YOU A CURVE-PT. 2

(James 1:2-12)

THEME: Life has a way of throwing all of us a curve ball from time to time. A curve ball is some unexpected problem or twist in life that comes out of nowhere and typically throws us off our game and leaves us baffled as to how to hit it or deal with it. No one faced a nastier curve ball than Job. Through all the bad things that happened to him, Job learned a valuable lesson about suffering that every one of us needs to learn. When faced with trials, instead of focusing on the reason for the trial, we need to focus on our response to the trial. How we respond to trials in our lives is one of the greatest tests of the genuineness of our relationship with God. In other words, our response to life’s trials proves whether our faith is real or fake. That’s what James was getting at here in the opening verses of his letter to Jewish believers who had been scattered all over the world as a result of persecution. In the midst of their distressing situation, he wrote to them and explained SIX WAYS to respond when life throws you a curve.

A JOYFUL ATTITUDE (v. 2)

AN UNDERSTANDING MIND (v. 3)

A SUBMISSIVE WILL (v. 4)

A BELIEVING HEART (vv. 5-8)

A HUMBLE SPIRIT (vv. 9-11)

A PERSEVERING HOPE (v. 12)
