THEME: No other book in the Bible provides a clearer presentation of God's grand strategy to save a world lost in sin than Paul's letter to the Romans. Typically, Paul began his letters by introducing himself, identifying his readers, and then giving them a brief greeting. But since he had not founded any of the Roman churches, nor had he ever visited Rome, he likely felt the need to establish his credentials and expand on his message. So he digressed to clarify his unique calling as the apostle to the Gentiles and elaborate on the gospel God had called him to preach. In Romans 1:1-7, Paul highlighted EIGHT FACETS of the breathtaking gem that is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Here are eight foundational truths about the gospel:
1. The gospel was mater-minded by God (v. 1)
2. The gospel is explained in the Scriptures (v. 2)
3. The gospel is centered around Jesus Christ (vv. 3-4)
4. The gospel is initiated by God's grace (vv. 5-6)
5. The gospel is expected to result in obedience (v. 5)
6. The gospel is presented to the entire world (v. 5)
7. The gospel is intended to honor the name of Christ (v. 5)
8. The gospel is enjoyed by those who embrace it (v. 7)
Thank God that while you are not an apostle like Paul, you have been called and set apart by Him to proclaim the gospel to others. Ask Him to make you a joyful, faithful bond-slave of Christ.
